· We learned, from the generations before us, that we could use food to console us when we experience negative feelings. (I just lost out on that job. Pass the donuts, please.)
· When we feel hurt or vulnerable, we comfort ourselves with food. (As babies, our mother would nurse us or feed us a bottle, when we felt insecure.)
· We overeat when we are unsure or afraid-anxious. Insecurity is the cause of a lot of middle- aged spread.
